Stephen King: My ‘Lisey’s Story’ Playlist

“I’m a big rock fan,” author Stephen King tells Apple Music, by way of introducing his exclusive playlist celebrating the Apple TV+ Original Series ‘Lisey’s Story,’ which he adapted from his own 2006 novel. “In the words of Eric Carmen of the Raspberries, I’ve been funky since I ditched the stroller—but I also love country, and while I was working on ‘Lisey’s Story,’ that’s what I listened to almost exclusively.” Below, King goes track by track through some of his favorite country selections. Hank Williams, “Jambalaya” and “Kaw-Liga” “Hank Williams is the father of modern country music, so I listened to favorite tracks over and over. Some, like ‘Jambalaya’ and ‘Kaw-Liga,’ are in the show. Those songs (and Hank’s tortured life story) were what I leaned on, stuff like ‘Hey, Good Lookin’’ and ‘Lovesick Blues.’” Waylon Jennings, “Waymore’s Blues” “This is playing while Dooley is torturing Lisey. ‘Ain’t that just the cutest song?’ he says. Brrr!” Eric Church, “How ’Bout You” “Love Eric Church. ‘How ’Bout You’ is a great song, and his new album Heart is fantastic.” Pat Green, “Wave on Wave” “This is a powerful statement about the redemptive power of love.” Marty Stuart, “Hillbilly Rock” “This song will just get you up on your feet and dancing.”
