After a stint in the successful pop duo Lu, Mexican singer-songwriter Paty Cantú proved she has what it takes to stand on her own via her soul-baring 2009 solo debut, Me Quedo Sola. Admittedly autobiographical, the album resonated with anyone who's ever had their heart torn into little pieces—which is to say, everyone. Since then, the self-professed “drama queen” has written poignant love songs for pop queens like Alejandra Guzmán and Dulce María. Cantú's more recent work may be sunnier and more uplifting, but it still comes from the gut.
