Coming out of the Philadelphia open mic scene of the '90s, Musiq Soulchild piggybacked onto the burgeoning neo-soul movement with his 2000 debut, Aijuswanaseing. Revealing himself as a singer/songwriter with an appreciation for the classic sounds of Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles, the album went platinum. His follow up two years later, Juslisen, repeated the commercial success, while further projects would see his talent being honored by the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul on a slow burning collaboration in 2008.
