Metal: Forefathers

Modern metal was forged in part by rock, but its roots reach back further. Metal chords and phrasing originated from rural blues, which in turn informed early rock ‘n' roll. Mavericks like Link Wray amplified the intensity and simplicity of these songs and wielded enormous influence over ‘60s acts like Cream and Jimi Hendrix. The rest, of course, is metal history.
