Mau y Ricky may be scions of a famous father—Venezuelan pop star Ricardo Montaner—but they earned their own spot on stage, touring with him as kids (Ricky opened for him, on piano, at age 7!) and writing songs for a cavalcade of pop stars that includes Thalía, Miguel Bosé, and Cristian Castro. They co-wrote Ricky Martin’s 2016 smash hit “Vente Pa’ Ca” and released their own debut single that same year, showing an unerring pop sensibility. They’re increasingly collaborating with reggaetóneros like Sebastián Yatra and Manuel Turizo, seeding that ubiquitous dance music with a persuasive, off-center sweetness.
