Low Steppa’s tunes could easily pass for lost club classics from the ’90s—never mind that the Birmingham DJ (a.k.a. Will Bailey) only launched the alias in 2013. Marked by stabbing keys, gospel-influenced toplines and chunky drum grooves, his music lives and breathes house music at its most elemental. The piano-fueled “Wanna Show You”, a highlight from 2020’s Boiling Point LP, is uplift personified; “Love Jam” puts a silky spin on moodier, deeper grooves; and “Runnin’” takes crossover club sounds and tugs them gently back underground, anchored by an unforgettable bassline.
