Ledisi was born to sing. Her mother was active on the local Louisiana live circuit, her father is the soul man Larry Saunders, and her grandfather was the R&B crooner Johnny Ace. Two independently-released albums in the early aughts established her jazz-inflected vocal style, before she signed to the Verve label for 2007's Lost & Found—a project that scored her a couple of GRAMMY® nominations. 2009's Turn Me Loose and 2011's Pieces of Me saw the singer's sound embrace neo soul and full-bodied R&B styles.
