Hip Hop History vol. 5: 2nd Golden Age 1992-1996

The second Golden Age is often described as the years that churned our the best quality work from Hip Hop. The amount of classic albums that were released during this period is staggering, the competitive nature of Hip Hop continued to push every artist that released music which yielded the best results in history. Easily the best era in terms of quality music and lyrics. 1994 was the year that gave us Ready To Die, Illmatic, The Chronic, Midnight Marauders, and 36 Chambers which are all considered some of the most influential albums in the genre. Everything from production to rhyme style boundaries were pushed, during this period Jungle/Drum & Bass and Trip Hop evolved and used its’ influences from Hip Hop were evident as the styles meshed together. The end of 1996 also saw the passing of the Telecommunications Act which effects are still felt by the music industry. The new act allowed the ownership of multiple stations to be owned by one owner which in resulted in less diversity of music being played on the air, it made it more challenging for a newer artist to get air play.
