Christian Fennesz is technically a guitarist, but what you'll hear in his music is not picking and strumming but a gorgeous wash of ambient atmospherics. The Austrian artist sends his chosen instrument through his laptop and effects pedals, masking almost all its recognizable qualities into gentle waves of drone or sheets of static. A fixture in the avant music world since the late '90s, Fennesz is often commissioned to do remix work and has participated in high profile collaborations with Sparklehorse, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and David Sylvian.
