Formed in 1989, Dervish are one of Ireland's top traditional bands. The critically acclaimed group quickly proved themselves with a series of albums that balanced deft, invigorating instrumentals with ballads featuring the dulcet tones of singer Cathy Jordan. They evolved with 2001's Spirit, mingling standards and covers for a more contemporary sound. The band—who represented Ireland in 2007's Eurovision contest—mined that vein again with 2008's Travelling Show, on which they covered Cher and Suzanne Vega, among many other wonderful surprises.
