David Usher Essentials

After a very successful run screaming at the top of his lungs with his post-grunge band Moist, David Usher turned down his voice to a more seductive croon. He recorded his minimalist solo debut, Little Songs, in his kitchen, developing a much more polished sound on the followup, Morning Orbit, which went platinum and won the Juno for Best Pop Album in 2002. He continued putting out albums at a steady rate, and on 2010's The Mile End Sessions (named after the famous Montréal neighborhood he calls home) he even sang in French, collaborating with Québec pop stars Marie-Mai and Coeur de pirate.
