When Corey Taylor joined Slipknot in 1997, he was just a weirdo in a creepy mask growling like Satan’s spawn. In the ensuing years, however, he has proved to be one of the most adaptable hard-rock and heavy-metal singers of his generation. Whether on his own or with his other band, Stone Sour, he pivots to big, melodic vocals perfect for catchy arena anthems and aching power ballads. This versatility has not been lost on his fellow artists. His list of collaborations is long, boasting musicians as varied as metalcore bruisers Code Orange, blink-182’s Travis Barker and Southern-fried headbanger Zakk Wylde.
