Candid Records: Early '60s Jazz
Apple Music
Archie Bleyer's original jazz imprint made a subtle but important impact on both jazz and civil rights culture in the early ‘60s. Alongside the label's bop offerings, it also released many overtly political records by artists like Cecil Taylor and Max Roach. With Candid backing them up, these musicians were able to engage with listeners on serious, controversial topics for the first time.
