Música Popular Brasileira—MPB for short—started becoming the country's dominant pop music style in the late '60s, as rock and R&B influences infiltrated bossa nova's hybrid of jazz and samba. As broad a category as rock, it encompasses a huge variety of musical styles, but each has its own proudly Brazilian flavor.
