At Home With Phoenix: The Playlist

French indie-pop band Phoenix hasn’t been able to record music together since the pandemic hit. “We're hoping that we will be able to go back to work and just be in the studio together,” lead vocalist Thomas Mars tells Apple Music. “There's very little we can do remotely. Everything that we do that's interesting is a weird mix between the four of us, which is a curse during these times. It's really our favorite way to work.” As the band returns with their new single “Identical,” featured in the upcoming film On the Rocks (streaming exclusively on Apple TV+), Mars and multi-instrumentalist Laurent Brancowitz curate a selection of timeless classics that are making them feel better during lockdown on this exclusive Apple Music playlist. Check out some of their picks below. The Clash, “Lost in the Supermarket” Mars: “That's one of my favorite songs from The Clash. It's so unique. I wouldn't compare ourselves to The Clash, because they're one of the bands that makes you want to start a band. Everything was so good—the instruments, the style.” Jackson Browne, “Late for the Sky” Mars: “It's my favorite bassline of all time, I think. I really fell in love with this song when we were in Tokyo, playing in a record bar where everything's perfect. They have the best speakers.” Doja Cat & Tyga, “Juicy” Brancowitz: “I discovered it on TikTok. What’s nice about it is there's a level of innocence. Because it's a medium that's mostly controlled by teenagers. So there's something very pure about it.”
