At Home With James Blake: The Playlist

James Blake is easing back into writing new music while he’s socially distancing—even if he has his reservations about releasing a full-fledged album. “I want to see what happens,” Blake tells Apple Music. “In terms of releasing a whole project, I think industry-wise, it's just a strange time. I don't really know what is up or down.” In the meantime, the electronic music producer intends to release a series of stand-alone singles, such as his brand-new track “You’re Too Precious,” which he says straddles the line between his last studio LP, 2019’s Assume Form, and his next official full-length release. On this exclusive playlist curated by Blake, he highlights songs that are keeping him inspired in these strange times, including artists such as Terry Callier, Moses Sumney, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Connan Mockasin, and Chynna—picked with the help of his girlfriend Jameela Jamil. “I really loved her voice and the things she was saying,” Blake says of late Philadelphia rapper Chynna, whose track “mood” he regularly plays on DJ sets. “She recently passed and I was just gutted; me and Jameela both were. I just thought she was incredibly underrated.”
