Where narcocorridos paint a picture of norteño drug kingpins, Arsenal Efectivo set themselves apart with their self-proclaimed trap corridos, focusing largely on the experience of the lower-level runners of the U.S.-Mexican border drug trade. Throughout their 2015 breakthrough, the Vida Peligrosa EP, and 2017’s chart-topping En La Fuga, the string-heavy sound of the Chicano trio comes together with two guitars—including the distinct high-pitched requinto—an acoustic bass, and lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a pawn’s own quest for money, power, and respect in the drug business.
