Alan Yang: Represent

“Sometimes, just hearing a song can inspire the creation of a scene or even an entire film,” Alan Yang tells Apple Music. Such was the case with Taiwanese singer-actress Yao Surong’s 1960s ballad “偷心的人,” which Yang—the writer-producer behind the Apple TV+ Original Series Little America—says served as a key inspiration for his film Tigertail. It’s the lead track on an exclusive playlist Yang’s made for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. “The rest of these songs—all by Asian or AAPI artists—span decades and continents,” he says. “They're each amazing on their own, but could also be incredible as the soundtrack to films of all kinds of different genres. Please find your own songs you love, though—I might use these for myself!”
