2020-08 Part 4

First song from a 60s/70s Korean psych rock compilation I have been enjoying very much. Hadn’t heard this Frank Jr. song before—I am always a little more susceptible to lounge music in the summer. Song is on the soundtrack for a Neil Hamburger film. Oddisee continues to churn out good songs year after year. A Quiet Life is a pretty song from a 2010 italian noir film. Lianne is very underrated, have been enjoying her stuff since 2012. New Protomartyr album is different and interesting. Laura Mvula like Lianne is beautiful British R&B. El hijo de Mama translates to Momma’s Boy & has some warm vocals. Andrea True Connection is a former porn star turned singer, she recorded an album while she was stranded in Cuba. “Don’t you beware” is an odd phrase to sing. Mel Torme continuing the summer lounge vibes. Christelle Bofale is a cool new songwriter I hadn’t heard of with a noteworthy debut EP. The whole Mahalia R&B album is a soothing weekend morning listen. 1st Adam Green song is a cover of Turner Cody who is an obscure NY anti folk singer that was in same scene as Herman Dune, Jeffrey Lewis, Regina Spektor, Kimya Dawson. I went searching for this old song after having the “big money no whammies” line from a Mystikal song stuck in my head and I remembered this odd tongue twister anti folk song had that line too. Couldn’t find the original on Apple Music but did find this cover. 2nd Adam Green song is an original and very lounge-y. Another Turner Cody cover by Diane Cluck whose voice I’ve always found unique and haunting. Inquire Within is another odd phrase to sing. Essex have a song that I’ve always loved called Easier Said Than Done—hadn’t heard this one before and I like it. Long Hot Summer Nights has some good vibes. “We were feelin good / we were feelin okay” bringing that poetry.
