2020-08 Part 1

Another Lou Turner song that is cool. Speak-sing Bill Callahan/Courtney Barnett vibes. Have had an essay I read about an interview with Bunny Wailer on my mind for months. Chaka! This song rips. Crazy that it wasn’t a single. Planet 1999 song reminds me of something but can’t place it—maybe just the 90s, great album cover. Emitt Rhodes passed away a few weeks ago. RIP to a real melody wrangler & a savant of that warm 70s pop sound that I would drink up if it was a tea. Tia Blake album is in vein of Connie Converse, Vashti Bunyan and other 70s one hit wonder sleepy folk musicians. “sitting on the dashboard of my car” is a perfect line to sing a bunch in a song. Tilly & the Wall always a great summer listen. They had a tap dancer as part of the band(!) They also have a Best Of album that was just released. Jimmy Whispers’ bedroom pop slipped past me in 2015. Busdriver popped up on shuffle in the car the other day and I was glad. Still one of the better rappers I’ve seen perform live. Always have loved this Built to Spill song. It’s covered by Gillian Welch on a new album she just put out. House Party themed songs ✔️ Je Te Pardonne = ‘Baby I Love You’ orig. sung by Ronettes—also covered by the Ramones which I think I’ve put on a mix before. Frida still has my heart. Bill Fay song—“all my time is lying on the factory floor” is a hell of a line. Bless him. Such a great 70s album. Jim James’ (My Morning Jacket) Bob Marley cover came out in 2014 but is new to me. Moon Racer song is haunting & beautiful & warm lo fi bedroom pop. Going alone on a solo Australian tour seems like a dream! Bet he regrets writing this song now that we will never be allowed to visit any other countries.
