Essential Albums
- On their eighth studio album, the stalwarts of Southern-fried Christian rock seem intent on addressing the downcast and the despairing; the band’s faith-filled, Christ-centered lyrics allow them to offer real hope, while their addictive riffs and concert-ready choruses keep the album upbeat and energetic. For a while, Wherever You Are is downright electrifying, slowing only a bit for the emphatic ballad “Cry Out to Jesus.” The devotional “Communion” cools things out to a more meditative pace, but its soulful glow will keep listeners rapt.

About Third Day
Over the course of 25 years, Third Day combined Southern rock riffs with a spiritual message, finding success in the worlds of both secular and Christian music. ∙ Third Day—whose name is a reference to the resurrection of Christ—formed in 1991, while the band’s members were still in high school. ∙ After climbing to No. 11 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart with their self-titled 1996 LP, the group landed in the Top 5 with their next 12 studio albums—7 of which hit No. 1. ∙ In 1998, they took home their first two Dove Awards (for the Conspiracy No. 5 LP and the song “Alien”), and they would go on to win a total of 24 during their career. ∙ The band earned 11 Grammy nominations, winning four Awards, including the Best Rock Gospel Album trophy for 2001’s Come Together. ∙ Beginning with 2005’s Platinum-certified Wherever You Are, they landed four straight albums in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. ∙ In a nod to the group’s Southern rock roots, 2017’s Revival, their final album, was recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
