Essential Albums
- After more than a decade of anticipation, Warner Classics finally released a recording of Osvaldo Golijov’s 2006 celestial masterpiece Azul, his concerto for amplified cello. Soloist Yo-Yo Ma’s impeccable lyricism fits Golijov’s writing like a glove, as soaring lines intersect with popping hyper-accordion melodies and dissonance from the orchestra.

About The Knights
The Knights are a popular New York City-based chamber orchestra whose repertory is mainly classical but inclusive of many other genres, as well. The group was founded in New York City by brothers Eric and Colin Jacobsen. The Knights may well offer a concert of Mozart, Shostakovich, and atonal works, then turn to jazz or arrangements of music by Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. Their eclectic tastes owe something to their membership, which includes composers, arrangers, singers, and improvisers from diverse backgrounds eager to accommodate a range of music styles. In 2024, Eric Jacobsen led the Knights on the recording Anna Clyne: Shorthand, which featured Colin Jacobsen, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Pekka Kuusisto, and mandolinist Avi Avital as soloists.
