Sweet Honey In the Rock

Since this female a cappella collective formed in Washington, D.C. in 1973, it has performed a kaleidoscopic array of music styles, from Liberian religious music to Woody Guthrie and Buffy Sainte-Marie covers. It has also become a byword for social and political activism, participating in benefits for AIDS and the homeless, as well as contributing its considerable musical expertise to education programs focusing on black music.
