About Shriekback
Art-funk outfit Shriekback originally evolved around a three-man nucleus of former Gang Of Four member Dave Allen, Carl Marsh, and Barry Andrews (previously with XTC, and Robert Fripp’s League Of Gentlemen). The trio fused funk and rock with a unique and complex rhythmic approach, creating a distinctive and influential sound most notably on the singles "My Spine (Is the Bassline)" and "Lined Up." They signed with Arista Records in the mid-'80s and released one excellent album. After a brief hiatus, the band reconvened, inspired by the U.K.’s burgeoning dance music scene, to record SACRED CITY, which included contributions from Underworld’s Karl Hyde. Sporadic live work and low-key releases continue into the new millennium, with contributions from XTC’s Andy Partridge and percussionist Mark Raudva.
