About Shiba San

Shiba San is the house alias of Parisian producer Frédéric Poulet. Formerly known as a hip-hop DJ and beatmaker, he focused on bass-heavy tech-house in 2013, blending Chicago house, soul, and rap influences. He scored a major club hit with his 2014 "Okay," and became a fixture at dance festivals around the world. Poulet was initially known as Cutee B, and produced hip-hop and R&B mixtapes beginning in the mid-'90s, in addition to producing house tracks with artists like Bob Sinclar, sometimes as Q-Tee Fingers. In 2013, he launched his Shiba San moniker with the EP Me & My Doggs. The All About Booty EP followed in 2014, and his breakthrough single "Okay" was issued on Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird label that year before it was given a wider release by Ultra Records. As he continued to release singles on labels like Relief Records and Repopulate Mars, his grassroots following grew, so much so that DJ Mag named him "Best of French" DJ in 2016. He launched his Basement Leak label and released collaborations with Green Velvet, Tim Baresko, and Kevin Knapp. He released several EPs in 2018, including Back to Funk, Excluded, and Downtown. Subsequent singles included 2019's "Rock da House" and 2020's "Runnin' Roll." ~ Neil Z. Yeung & Paul Simpson
