About Robert Fripp

Robert Fripp first gained fame as the leader of the seminal 1970s British prog-rock band King Crimson. Arguably, though, Fripp's biggest contribution to music has been made as a solo artist. Using key concepts in contemporary classical composition and breakthroughs in music technology, Fripp developed two important concepts: Frippertronics and Soundscapes. Both techniques -- analog and digital respectively -- use sound looping as a method of recording and performing, and can be heard on dozens of albums that Fripp has been involved in by artists as diverse as Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, and Daryl Hall. Fripp reunited King Crimson as a septet, and continued to tour and explore new theories in music well into the new millennium.
