Renée Elise Goldsberry is a singer-songwriter and award-winning actress, known for starring in the original Broadway productions of Hamilton and The Color Purple. ∙ Goldsberry won the Grand Prize in the 1997 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for a selection of songs she later included on her 2001 debut album, Everything But The Kitchen Sink. ∙ She starred in and wrote the music for All About You, the Best Film winner at the 2001 American Black Film Festival. ∙ For her portrayal of Evangeline Williamson on TV’s One Life To Live from 2003 to 2007, she won a Soap Opera Digest award and scored two Daytime Emmy award nominations. ∙ In 2015, she originated the role Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway sensation Hamilton, winning a Tony award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and a Grammy for the cast recording.
