About Netherlands

Employing a doomy, eclectic, and technically masterful brand of punk-addled hard rock, New York's Netherlands emerged in 2012 with the crushing Fantasmatic and a mission statement to create music that is correspondingly "light-hearted, brutal, ecstatic." The band is the brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Timo Ellis, a versatile artist and serial collaborator who has worked with the likes of Cibo Matto, John Zorn, Ween, the Melvins, and Yoko Ono. Founded in 2010 by Ellis, Chelsea Wierbonski, John Musto, and Damien Moffitt, the Brooklyn-based outfit issued their debut album, Fantasmatic, independently in 2012. A sophomore effort, Silicon Vapor, arrived in 2013, followed by Audubon in 2016, the latter of which was released via Prosthetic Records. The band continued to mold hard rock subgenres into their own likeness on 2018's Black Gaia and 2020's Zombie Techno. ~ James Christopher Monger
