Martin Wåhlberg

About Martin Wåhlberg

Norwegian conductor Martin Wåhlberg has undertaken productions and a recording of an unknown 18th century opera, buttressed by a broad knowledge of the literature and culture of the period. He is best known as the director of and the creative force behind the Trondheim Barokk and Orkester Nord chamber groups. Wåhlberg has investigated musical references in 18th century French novels, and his album Le Roman des Lumières compiles and performs a group of those. On that album, Wåhlberg directed Trondheim Barokk, a group he founded in 2009 with plucked stringed instrument player Erik Skanke Høsøien. As Trondheim Barokk expanded its repertory, it changed its name to Orkester Nord. He and Orkester Nord issued the album Mozart Grétry 1773 in 2022 and an album featuring two short operas by Egidio Duni in 2023. Wåhlberg has also written two books
