About Mark O'Connor
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is watching the Johnny Cash television show seeing him perform as well as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Doug Kershaw. I began playing and singing John Cash songs and asking my parents for a fiddle like Kershaw's. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Katie Noonan, Joni Mitchell's Blue Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Will the Circle Be Unbroken These are examples of American music performed by the some of the greatest and iconic musicians and singers. These albums had a profound influence on me as a kid and caused me to want to take up instruments and perform what I call Americana music. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Coming Home” This song is the title track of my latest Grammy-winning album, and features my family—my wife Maggie O'Connor, Kate O'Connor and my son Forrest O'Connor who wrote this song for us and sings the lead. It's about home, and it is Americana music! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Sharing my music with my wife—vocalist and violinist Maggie O'Connor. We've been playing together now for 9 years. We brought our fiddles together on our first album, Duo, and now with a new set of Americana vocals I've written, Life After Life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I've been able to perform in a lot of great venues in the past, so my bucket list would be to play some of the same places but with Maggie. To share this would be awesome. I've gotten to play Carnegie Hall as a soloist, but not with Maggie yet!
