Listing Ship

About Listing Ship

Pop-classical group Listing Ship was founded in Los Angeles, CA, by songwriters Lyman Chaffee (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Heather Lockie (vocals, viola), who initially named their group Leather Hyman as a punning rearrangement of the letters of their first names. Joined by bass and synthesizer player Pablo Garcia, they released their debut album, Host Body, in January 1997. Sunshine and Other Forms of Radiation followed on the Orchard label in April 2000. For 2002's Dance Class Revolution, released by True Classical, they changed their name to the more accessible Listing Ship while adding drummer Matt Stein. In October 2005, as they prepared to release their fourth album, Time to Dream, a press release listed the band's personnel, in addition to Chaffee and Lockie, as including Shawn Lockie (vocals), Julie Carpenter (violin), Laura Steenberger (acoustic bass), Michael Whitmore (vibraphone, guitar, banjo, mandolin), and Kyle C. Kyle (drums). All were featured, along with other musicians, on Time to Dream when True Classical released it in January 2006. ~ William Ruhlmann
