About Lisa Gerrard

Australian Lisa Gerrard is an award-winning singer, composer, and instrumentalist, and one-half of Dead Can Dance. An almost otherworldly vocalist, she sings in the dramatic contralto and mezzo-soprano ranges, often in a self-created language. Her solo music makes use of global folk traditions and instruments, orchestral arrangements, and electronics. Her solo debut, 1995's The Mirror Pool, and 1998's Duality were recorded in collaboration with Pieter Bourke, as was her film score for The Insider. In 2000, she and Hans Zimmer won a Golden Globe for their Gladiator score, and Gerrard won an Aria for her Balibo score in 2009. Between 2011 and 2017, she scored five feature films including Son of God, Jane Got a Gun, and 2:22. Gerrard has also recorded notable collaborations with composers Klaus Schulze, Zbigniew Preisner, and Patrick Cassidy. In 2021, she and composer/keyboardist Jules Maxwell released the album Burn.
