The title of Kina’s breakthrough 2018 hit, “Can We Kiss Forever?", perfectly encapsulates the swoony romanticism and unique intimacy that the young Italian producer has achieved in all his songs to date. Born in 2000 in a suburb of Naples, Kina describes himself as a shy teen who was inspired by Skrillex and Diplo to use music as a means of personal expression. After developing his skills by watching software tutorials on YouTube and finding valuable support from fellow lo-fi creators like The Bootleg Boy and Nourish, Kina began attracting millions of streams and followers with a masterfully chill series of singles in 2018 and 2019. By combining soft beats and dreamy guest vocals by Adriana Proenza on the aforementioned “Can We Kiss Forever?” and Snøw on “Get You the Moon,” the producer built something fresh out of all the things he loved the most about emo rap, melodic pop, and EDM at its lowest BPM. Released in 2020 after his massive viral success led to a deal with Columbia Records, Kina’s debut EP, Things I Wanted To Tell You, saw the producer extend and refine that delicate nighttime mood and lovelorn feel even further. On his collaborations with Au/Ra, darkpassengerxx, and Pink Sweat$, Kina sets a standard for serene and pillowy gorgeousness that few can match.
