In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is my dad playing me his favorite records—The Beatles, James Taylor, Michael Jackson—and teaching me rhythm on a toy keyboard. Years later, he taught me guitar and songwriting, and I started playing my own gigs. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Fiona Apple, When the Pawn... Jeff Buckley, Grace Patty Griffin, Living with Ghosts Patty Griffin’s Living with Ghosts for its honest songwriting and vulnerable delivery. Fiona Apple’s When the Pawn… for its raw, unapologetic emotion. Jeff Buckley’s Grace because it’s simply one of the most hauntingly beautiful records ever made. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sweet Silver Lining” I wrote “Sweet Silver Lining” about refusing to let a bad chapter become the whole story. Looking for hope in the chaos is a consistent theme in my music. It’s been really meaningful to see that song keep finding people who need it over the years. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I just wrapped an 83-show world tour, playing songs that span nearly 20 years of writing all over the world. Seeing older songs take on new lives alongside newer ones- and watching audiences connect the dots between them- was pretty surreal. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I’d love to play a show with a full orchestra someday. I love strings, drama and making things unnecessarily enormous. I’d love to make a record somewhere I’ve never lived before, disappear into a new city and see what it does to the songs.
