About Jason Isbell

Americana singer-songwriter Jason Isbell is a native Alabamian, who got his start as a member of the Southern rock band Drive-By Truckers. ∙ Isbell wrote some of Drive-By Truckers’ signature songs, including “Decoration Day,” a tale of murderous family rivalry that was the title track to their acclaimed 2003 album. ∙ His emotionally raw 2013 LP Southeastern—recorded when he was newly sober—was a commercial and critical success, garnering praise from Bruce Springsteen and John Prine. ∙ Something More Than Free debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock, Country and Folk charts in 2015. ∙ The Country Music Hall of Fame named Isbell its 2017 artist-in-residence, an honor previously bestowed on such legends as Kris Kristofferson, Earl Scruggs, and Rosanne Cash. ∙ He wrote “Maybe It’s Time,” the acoustic alt-country ballad performed by Bradley Cooper in the 2018 film A Star Is Born. ∙ Among his many accolades, Isbell has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Americana Album honors in 2016 and 2018.
