Pittsburgher Greg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, is a DJ and electronic cut-&-paste artist who garnered heavy attention in 2006 and 2007 with his album NIGHT RIPPER. Though Gillis's early material showcased an aggressively experimental mind at work, it wasn't nearly as accessible as the entirely sample-based pop mash-up that was NIGHT RIPPER. Mixing the likes of Elton John, Biggie Smalls, the Boredoms, the Pixies, and just about anything else imaginable, Gillis took the idea of reappropriation in pop music to a stunning new level that was at once technically dazzling and thoroughly engaging. Gillis also made a name for himself through his ecstatic participatory live shows, and has gone on to do remixes for Grizzly Bear, Peter Bjorn and John, and Beck.
