About Georg Christoph Biller
Georg Christoph Biller was a German conductor, vocalist, educator, and composer. From 1965 to 1974, he received his musical training as a member of the legendary Thomanerchor at St. Thomas Church, Leipzig, taking courses with Erhard Mauersberger and Hans-Joachim Rotzsch. From 1976 to 1981, Biller attended the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, where he studied conducting with Rolf Reuter and Kurt Masur. In 1991, he taught choral conducting at the University of Music in Detmold, until he was named the 16th Thomaskantor since Bach's time, holding that position from 1992 to 2015. In 1994, he became a professor of choral conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University, and in 1996, he was admitted to the Academy of Arts of Saxony. Biller has recorded many of Bach's cantatas and other choral repertoire for Philips and Rondeau. Georg Christoph Biller died January 27, 2022 after a long illness; he was 66 years old.
