Signed to Parlophone Records after just four gigs, EMF repaid the label when their debut single "Unbelievable" soared to the U.K. Top 5. While its follow-up, "I Believe," was criticized in many quarters as a straight rewrite, the album SCHUBERT DIP won over the teen crowd, selling over two million copies. Along with Jesus Jones, the band became part of a miniscule "second British invasion" in the states, as "Unbelievable" stormed to the top of the U.S. charts. 1992's follow-up set, STIGMA, was released to critical and commercial disappointment. After a three-year hiatus and another flopped album, the outfit called it a day.
