About Elmo & Patsy

Founded by then-married couple Elmo Shropshire and Patsy Trigg in 1974, Elmo & Patsy was a comedic bluegrass duo best known for novelty holiday classics.

∙ “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer,” the duo’s 1982 hit, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Christmas Singles chart a week after its debut.
∙ The Platinum LP Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer reached the Top 30 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart five seasons in a row, peaking at No. 8 in 1987.
∙ Making his debut as Dr. Elmo in 1992, Shropshire released three Top 10 solo holiday albums through 2007.
∙ In 2000, Shropshire cowrote and voice-acted in the TV special Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, based on Elmo & Patsy’s hit song of the same title.
