About Christophe Marguet
b. 14 May 1965, Paris, France. Marguet began playing drums as a child and at 15 was studying with Jacques Bonnardel in Drôme. He moved to Paris where he continued with his studies at the Dante Agostini School. He attended several workshops including one with Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid and Victor Lewis, and another with Quest (David Liebman, Richie Beirach, Ron McClure, Billy Hart and John Abercrombie). Marguet began playing professionally in 1985, working at clubs and festivals with artists such as Ted Curson, Laurent De Wilde, Vincent Herring, Robin Kenyatta, Didier Levallet, Ted Nash, Bud Shank and Barney Wilen. He continued freelancing as an accompanist through the 90s and beyond, also playing as a regular member of several bands including Daniel Beaussier’s Correspondances, the Nicolas Genest Quintet, the Emmanuel Sourdeix Trio and the Orchestre National De Jazz. In the early 90s he attracted critical acclaim, especially for his work with vibraphonist David Patrois and with bass player Christophe Wallemme. In 1993, he formed his own trio with Sébastien Texier (saxophone) and Olivier Sens (bass). Stylistically, Marguet ably adapts to the needs of the moment, but with his own groups leans towards acoustic and largely improvised music.
