An innovative progressive metal outfit from Denmark, Anubis Gate was formed in 2003. Drawing inspiration from bands like Queensrÿche, King Crimson, Fates Warning, and Iron Maiden, the group debuted their signature blend of melodic power metal and intricate progressive rock in 2004 on the full-length, Locomotive Records-issued Purification, with A Perfect Forever arriving the following year. 2007's Andromeda Unchained doubled down on the collective's prog predilections, and in 2008 they released their most ambitious outing to date, the conceptual The Detached, which earned a Danish Metal Award for best production. The group's eponymous fifth long-player was issued in 2011 via Nightmare Records, with Horizons and Covered in Black dropping in 2014 and 2017, respectively. ~ James Christopher Monger
