About Aly & AJ

Aly & AJ are an acting/singing sister duo who’ve transcend their Disney Channel roots and built an impressive musical career with their self-penned pop-rock songs • Born in Los Angeles and raised in Seattle, Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka grew up in a Christian household. Their mother once sang in a Christian rock group called JC Band. • The sisters began learning piano and acting in church plays around age five. By their teens, they’d learned guitar. • From 2004 to 2006, Aly starred in the Disney Channel series Phil of the Future. She was also in the 2005 Disney Channel original movie Now You See It..... • In 2005, Aly & AJ's debut studio album, Into the Rush, was released under Disney’s Hollywood Records. The following year, they co-starred in Disney Channel original movie Cow Belles. • Aly & AJ’s third album, 2007’s Insomniatic, peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. The single “Potential Breakup Song” became their highest-charting single to date, peaking at No. 17 in the US and No. 22 in the UK. • In 2009, the duo changed its band name to 78violet and left Hollywood Records the following year. As 78violet, they released “Hothouse” in 2013. It was meant to be the lead single for their next album, which was leaked but never officially released. • The duo returned to their Aly & AJ moniker in 2015. They released the comeback single “Take Me” in 2017. The song appears on that year’s Ten Years EP. • In 2020, they released a rerecorded explicit version of their signature hit “Potential Breakup Song” after the original went viral on TikTok. • The 2021 singles “Listen!!!” and “Pretty Places” prefaced the duo’s fourth studio album, A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun, their first full-length in 14 years. • Aly’s solo film acting credits also include Easy A and The Roommate.
