In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up going to church with the whole family. The worship service was a time for my dad to really let loose and sing his heart out–and I'd join in next to him. I think his unyielding voice in those services gave me the confidence to sing aloud. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Nathaniel Rateliff, In Memory of Loss Sigur Rós, Takk... Sufjan Stevens, Illinois "In Memory of Loss" is where I take the most influence–vocal stylings and songwriting. "Takk..." Sigur Ros feels the most them on this album with such beautiful, cinematic soundscapes. "Illinois" because it's home, nostalgia, and real. It's simple and it resonates with people. It's a snapshot of a particular time in life but also relevant day in and day out. It feels like me. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I can't choose one, but basically any time a listener gets to tell me face to face that they felt seen by listening to a song or hearing me perform. That's what music is about and why I keep writing and performing. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Playing one or more of my songs with an orchestra would ready me for the afterlife.
