About Pierre de Breville
After early study for a diplomatic career, Bréville studied at the Paris Conservatoire and took private lessons from Franck. He taught counterpoint at the Schola Cantorum and was very active in the Société Nationale de Musique. His opera, Eros vainqueur, (1900) is considered to be one of the most important operatic works of the era. Bréville was also known for his many songs, written in styles influenced by Wagner, Debussy and Fauré. His works were often performed during his lifetime but have been largely forgotten since then. ~ Lynn Vought
