About Shirley Ross

After singing with Gus Arnheim’s popular dance band, Shirley Ross moved to Hollywood in 1933. She first snatched small roles in films such as THE MERRY WIDOW. In 1936 she sang "Happy New Year" in the drama San Francisco, and the following year belted "Blue Hawaii," in duet with Bing Crosby in Waikiki Wedding. Ross was a frequent co-star of Bob Hope and the pair made popular recordings together of songs like Frank Loesser and Hoagy Carmichael’s "Two Sleepy People." By the mid-1940s, Ross left Hollywood for a quieter life.
