About Sam West

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember sitting on the floor in assembly at school, aged about 5 or 6. The headmistress, Mrs Whiteside, played the piano as we sang: 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' etc. She seemed about 80 and was neatly dressed. I watched and sang, fascinated. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Cosmé McMoon, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Glory (????) Of the Human Voice The Dixie Cups, The Very Best of The Dixie Cups: Chapel of Love The Richard Smallwood Singers, The Richard Smallwood Singers They range from the youthful wistfulness of The Dixie cups, singing about love and happiness. I like the light approach, and the innocence of their sound. Richard Smallwood blends high end gospel, with a 'classical' discipline. Fun music is a must! Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Birds at Dawn, London” For a few years, I would wake up early, and go in the garden to record the birds as they welcomed the new day. I then became inspired to combine birdsong, with a piano gentle track. This is the result, and I find it very relaxing, and meditative. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I was once booked to play violin solos at a 25th Wedding Anniversary. Upon opening the hall / venue door, I was given the biggest ever (my birthday) surprise by a large crowd! During the proceedings I was asked to still play a solo, and I got paid!! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like to do more soundtrack and screenwriting composing. It's very rewarding to create music, knowing that it is my own composition, coming from within!
