About Morten Kargaard Septet

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. As a child, I would listen to the sounds of the sea near my home. The rhythmic crashing of waves and the open Scandinavian landscapes still inspire my compositions today, blending nature’s beauty with musical structures. -Morten What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sir Georg Solti, Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition / Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin Keith Jarrett, Keith Jarrett: Concerts Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Ives: Three Places in New England, Symphony No. 3, The Unanswered Question, A Set of Pieces Ravel’s delicate orchestrations, Jarrett’s improvisational brilliance, and Ives’ bold textures all deeply inspire my work. These albums reflect the fusion of classical and jazz that shaping the septet’s sound. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Wrong Winter” Morten composed Wrong Winter during an unusually warm winter, as a quiet reflection on our changing climate. Making it particularly relevant in today’s global conversations about the environment. Inviting us to pause and reflect. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing Shape of Seven across different venues—classical festivals, churches, and music associations—has been unforgettable. Seeing how our fusion of classical and jazz resonates with such diverse audiences is deeply rewarding. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? We’d love to further explore international collaborations—combining our music with visual arts or dance performances.
