About Thomas Strønen

Norwegian Thomas Strønen is a prolific drummer, composer, arranger, improviser, producer, and bandleader. He has participated in or self-created some 70 albums on his own and in cooperation with a wide variety of talent, including the bands Food, Humcrush, and Parish, Mat Eilertsen's trio, and his own Time Is a Blind Guide. A circular drummer who plays both acoustic and electronic music, he has record deals with Rune Grammofon and ECM. His most celebrated recordings are 2004's Humcrush, 2006's Parish (2006), and six albums by the Food collective from 2002 to 2015. In 2021 he issued Bayou with clarinetist Marthe Lea and pianist Ayumi Tanaka. In 2024 he released Relations, that included duets with pianists Craig Taborn and Jorge Rossy, saxophonist Chris Potter, and Norwegian singer and folk musician Sinikka Langeland. In January 2026, Strønen and Time Is a Blind Guide, his ever-evolving acoustic group, released Off Stillness on ECM.
