About Thomas Crecquillon

Thomas Crecquillon (ca. 1505-ca. 1557) was a Renaissance composer from northern Europe, thought to have been born in France but usually linked to the Flemish school. Little is known of his life apart from his appointment as maître de la chapelle to the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, yet this privileged position has been cast in some doubt by an account that listed him merely as a singer and composer. He is regarded as one of the most significant figures between Josquin and Lassus, and though his chansons were popular, his sacred works were his most important contributions.
