About Fredrik Lundin

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Listening (back in the early 70's) to my fathers real to real tapes with the Danish Radios recordings of Dexter Gordon live at Montmartre Jazz Club in Copenhagen from the 60's, with Alex Riels, NHØP and Tete Montoliu. Those made a lasting impression. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Clifford Jordan, These Are My Roots - Clifford Jordan Plays Leadbelly Lee Konitz, An Image: Lee Konitz With Strings Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain These Are My Roots: I was given a cassette copy of this album early in my career and Leadbellys beautiful melodies combined with the gutsy playing of the band was revolutionary to me, and made me make my own version of those songs 10 year later. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “The Pond” I'm very proud of the writing, combining tradition and inovation, also I'm happy with my baritone solo on this track. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Oh, that's a hard one. Ther're so many. One that springs to mind, though, is the tours in 2002 and 2005 in Canada with my 11 piece band Fredrik Lundin Overdrive. The whole experience was very memorable. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Definitely: Making an album of my reworkings of old Danish folksongs. Recording an album with the incredible Swedish piano great Bobo Stenson and a project with new msuic for a large band celebrating Carla Bleys Escalator Over the Hill.
